Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens OR 5 year aged gouda and chocolate chip cookies? Hmmm. We know what the Chix prefer--that which goes better with scotch. There has never been a meeting of the Chix that has not included indulging in single malt scotch, aged gouda, and DC Scotch Chix homemade chocolate chip cookies. In fact, one could say this has become the holy trinity of of our meetings.
Aged gouda cheese and homemade chocolate chip cookies are both perfectly suitable to being enjoyed with a glass of single malt. The aged gouda, if old enough, is rich and salty. A 5 year old gouda will have deep craters of crystallized salt. It complements the saltier scotches such as a Caol Ila or Bunnahavain and it cuts through the sweeter scotches such as a Glenrothes or a Highland Park.
Chocolate cookies should only be consumed if they are homemade----we are bakers not fakers. Not only will your house smell better if you bake, but your fellow drinking partners will hang out and drink with you longer if you provide sustenance.
So many of the scotches that the Chix have enjoyed have included some element of chocolate in them. Better ingredients--especially chocolate chips and vanilla--yield a better cookie, and hence a better tasting experience when consumed with a single malt. Whether it's in the nose, on the palette, or in the finish, this combo demands to be tried. You will not be sorry.
And no, DC Scotch Chix is not ready to share her recipe yet.
