Godiamo!
Many years ago, CA Scotch Chick and her Scotch Gent were privileged to make the acquaintance of the Cosmo Couple. Despite their dubious choice in cocktails, and their total lack of appreciation for the finest of liquids, these two highly educated, erudite individuals have enriched the lives of the CA Scotch Couple over the years. They can speak to topics as wide ranging as mathematical physics and Middle East politics. They have traveled extensively, have an appreciation for wine (so close, and yet so far), speak fluent Italian, are gourmet chefs, are masters of the bad pun, and are the perfect host and hostess. Godiamo! (which is Italian for, "Let's revel!") is situated on 40 private acres high in the Rockies, with a breathtaking view of Pike's Peak - over all, a highly satisfactory setting for a work/play date.
While the Cosmo Couple may not be fans of single malt whisky, they are attentive to the needs of their house guests. They sought out their local spirits merchant and requested recommendations: a Glenfiddich 12 was awaiting the CA Scotch Couples arrival. In a similar manner, while CA Scotch Chick, may not be well versed in wine, she sought out the advice of the folks on the wine board at Chowhound, and arrived bearing a couple of Brunello de Montepulciano, one to drink, and one to lay away. In addition, somehow a bottle of 18 year Signatory Vintage Bruichladdich 1989 (number 296 of 300 bottles) made its way into her shopping cart and luggage. Yes, CA Scotch Chick is brazen, but when one is venturing into the wilderness, one must be well supplied.
It was a memorable weekend. While the days were spent wrestling with legal questions, the evenings were spent wrestling with the world's problems, rolling homemade ravioli, telling outrageous stories, and, of course, imbibing and eating. Glenfiddich 12 was perfect paired with pesto - the tastes are actually remarkably similar. The Bruichladdich's sweetness was an outstanding accompaniment for the ravioli. The conversation and company were stimulating, and the setting was sublime.
CA Scotch Chick stashed away a sample of the Bruichladdich 1989 for DC Scotch Chick before carting it to Colorado. Since the Scotch Chix have already reviewed Glenfiddich 12, below please find the Scotch Chix review of 18 year Signatory Vintage Bruichladdich 1989. Libiamo! (Let's drink!)
