Dangerous Liasons

Those of you who are acquainted with the lore of Washington, D.C. recognize that The Mayflower Hotel is a nexus of dangerous liaisons. As the illicit meeting-point of Elliot Spitzer and his mistress, the traditional lunch favorite of J. Edgar Hoover, and (last but not least) the perpetual resort of the highly-paid class of professionals known collectively as "lobbyists," it is clear that every liaison formed at the Mayflower is dangerous to someone -- and maybe to all of us.

The Mayflower is certainly a dangerous place if one has a low tolerance or has previously imbibed before showing up at it's lounge. The DC Scotch Couple stopped in for a dram before dinner reservations across the street. Wanting to try something new they ordered the Dalwhinnie 15 Yr. They of course ordered it neat. It indeed arrived neat but instead of the usual to fingers worth of whisky the glass contained about four! One would have been enough for the both of them. The Dalwhinnie was satisfactory but not exceptional. The same goes for the Mayflower's Scotch menu. But the DC Scotch Couple certainly appreciated the generosity of the bartender and will definitely be back for more pre-dinner drinks. DC Scotch Gent especially likes the free nut bowls found on the tables and at the bar. DC Scotch Chick digs the large tv screens for catching a few football plays.

Below you will find tasting notes for the Dalwhinnie 15.
