Showin' a Different Side

There is no question that DC Scotch Chick is feminine. When she slides into her little black dress and red stiletto heels and graces a room with her presence, heads turn! During a visit in July, however, CA Scotch Chick got to see a side of her friend she had never witnessed before, a side that was just a bit more feral than CA Scotch Chick had anticipated.

Now, DC Scotch Chick has had a marvelously rich and full life, but somehow in all of her adventures she has missed out of one of the truly great dishes - Buffalo Chicken Wings. Consequently, during the July visit, CA Scotch Chick decided to remedy this situation and whip up some of her Kick A*^ Super Crispy Chicken Wings for the DC Scotch Couple.

Like millions of others across the country, CA Scotch Chick follows the recipe on the back of the Frank's Redhot Bottle (or Durkees - depending on which coast she is on). However, she adds a step, taking a page out of Cantonese cuisine and drying the chicken wings for 48 hours before cooking them. She then bakes them for an hour in a super hot oven, and the results are the crispiest chicken wings known to man.

CA Scotch Chick figured her friend would like the chicken wings. DC Scotch Chick is a big fan of both crispy and spicy food. She stocks yummy crispy snacks for the Scotch Chix Scotch Sessions, and she can tackle the Kimchi Jjigae at the Korean restaurant with the best of them. CA Scotch Chick just didn't realize just how much her friend would like this Tasty Tidbit.

CA Scotch Chick's first clues were the moans of pleasure coming from the other end of the table.  What she saw banished all thoughts of her own meal from her head.

DC Scotch Chick was in a state of ecstasy, enthusiastically devouring the chicken wings. CA Scotch Chick watched in fascination as her very feminine friend took each piece of chicken in her immaculately manicured little hands, daintily but efficiently stripped the flesh, and then carefully crunched the ends of the bones between her perfectly straight white teeth before moving on to the next piece. It was like watching an extremely elegant member of a piranha school at work.

When DC Scotch Chick was done with her pile of chicken wings, she cast a possessive glance toward DC Scotch Gent's plate, "You gonna eat those bones?"

"Hmmm, wasn't planning to."

"Can I have 'em?"

That was enough for CA Scotch Chick. There were plenty of chicken wings left in the serving dish. If the bones were good enough to by-pass the main attraction, there must be something to them. She snapped the end off one of hers and crunched away. It was rather good, and there was just something so very satisfying about the whole endeavor.

Pretty soon, the entire table was polishing off the chicken wings and crunchin' off the ends of the bones. And, an entire aspect of all of our personalities was revealed.

Below, please find the recipe for CA Scotch Chix Super Crunchy Chicken Wings. We paired it with Caol Ila 12, but we won't blame the whisky for our behavior.

Disclaimer: The Scotch Chix neither recommend nor promote the eating of bones. Eat them at your own risk.
