Double the Malt, Double the Pleasure Part II

Back in July DC Scotch Chick was happy to review and introduce our Loyal Scotch Chix Fans to the pleasures of the Eades double malts. As mentioned Eades currently has three very different double malts available, and DC Scotch Chick guarantees that you are sure to find at least one to your liking. At the time DC Scotch Chick had only properly tasted the Islay double malt, a mixture of Caol Islay and Bowmore. She has more recently reviewed (and extremely enjoyed) the Eades Speyside double malt.

The Speyside double malt, an equal mixture of Longmorn and Glen Moray, is lively. The fruit one notices on the nose does not deceive. It is there again in the palate in full force. Heavy on plums and nectarines there is also a hint of malt and vanilla to balance out the bursting fruit flavors.

The great thing about the Speyside is that the taste satisfies while increasing your "thirst" for more. Like Mozart, you get just enough action to keep you wanting to continue. This isn't water-ry or viscous. It's powerful without going to extremes -- and as DC Scotch Chick noticed very dangerous for DC Scotch Gent's self-control. (Note to self: Hide the rest of it!)

The Eades Anticipation series, of which the Speyside is one of three, are still hard to come by. If you live in the DC Area you're in luck. Both the Wine Specialist and Central Liquors carry all three, and in Virginia the state run liquor stores carry the Highland. Chris Allwood, the managing director of Eades, informed me this week that Eades is in the process of getting it's other two malts into the VA stores as well.

For those of you on the West coast Eades can now be purchased in the San Francisco Bay area at the following locations: Swirl On Castro 572 Castro Street San Francisco 415-864-2262;  17th & Noe Market 3900 17th Street San Francisco 415-863-6337;  Handy Market 1815 Irving Street San Francisco 415-681-3761;  Discount Club 439 Courtland Ave San Francisco;  Ledger Liquors 1399 University Ave Berkeley 510-540-9243;  K & L Wine Merchant 3005 El Camino Real Redwood City 650-364-8544 – also On Line at http://www.klwines.com; Nopa Restaurant 560 Divisadero Street San Francisco 415-864-8643
