Summertime Spring Fever

Those of you who have been with the Chix from the beginning may have noticed that Springbank has not always been on our list of 5 Scotches to Get Any Chick Started. That's because it is a recent (and wonderful) discovery. The CA Scotch Couple stocked their Drinks Table with Springbank 10 for a June visit from DC Scotch Gent, and all three liked it so much that they immediately purchased some Springbank 15.

CA Scotch Chick didn't want DC Scotch Chick to feel left out, so she made up little travel size bottles of these luscious liquids (previously containing Macallan 12) for DC Scotch Gent to carry on the plane in his little zip lock baggie – not exactly what TSA had in mind, but nobody stopped him. CA Scotch Chick also sent along a threat with DC Scotch Gent that if he tipped those samples of Springbank into his glass on his flight home, she would break his wrists.

Well, thankfully nothing needs breaking. The Springbank 10 and 15 samples arrived untouched. The Springbank 10 was a refreshing, light, yet sweet and complex single malt - a perfect summertime scotch. The Springbank 15 had a more chewy body with a wonderful almost milk chocolate aftertaste in its finish.

The samples left DC Scotch Chick wanting more … and more. Lucky for her The Wine Specialist was having a Springbank tasting the following Friday. As usual she enlisted DC Scotch Gent to accompany her. As impressive as her first experiences had been, the tasting held at The Wine Specialist was extremely disappointing---the tasting, not the Springbank.

First of all, the scotch was served in a soft plastic cup. A big no-no that immediately reminded DC Scotch Chick of CA Scotch Chick's experience with single malts and plastic at the baseball game. Secondly, barely enough was poured to even coat the palette. It should be known that DC Scotch Chick has a very  low tolerance and is all in favor of small portions at tastings but this was ridiculous even by her standards. And finally, the pourer distributed the most potent of the three malts (the 100 proof) first, meaning all of the nuances of the next two were completely lost. DC Scotch Gent said it was the equivalent of going from a Cabernet to a Rose in the wine world. If DC Scotch Chick had not had the opportunity to taste Springbank before her Wine Specialist experience, she would not have known how good it was.

Which leaves DC Scotch Chick wanting more … and more. Don't worry, Loyal Scotch Chix Fans. DC Scotch Chick will be headed to California in the next couple of months, and the CA Scotch Couple will make sure to have Springbank on the Drinks Table. We've added DC Scotch Chick's impressions to our previous review of Springbank 10 and reposted it below. Below please also find the Scotch Chix review from our first samplings of Springbank 15.
