For all of their misanthropic tendencies, the CA Scotch Couple have some really remarkable friends. Since they are pretty picky when choosing the people with whom they spend their time, all of these individuals to a certain extent share the CA Scotch Couple's perspective on life. And that is why CA Scotch Chick is intrigued when these buddies are incredibly successful in situations in which the CA Scotch Couple would not so politely tell the powers that be to pack sand. Of all their friends who play well with others, perhaps the most amazing are Drambuie Girl and her faithful sidekick The Scotch Colonel.
Drambuie Girl and The Scotch Colonel are now a couple of kick a^* lawyers in Chicago, but in their previous life The Scotch Colonel was exactly that, a Colonel in the United States Air Force, and Drambuie Girl was his faithful sidekick, playing the role of the Wing and then Squadron Commander's wife.
Now, CA Scotch Chick has no problem envisioning these remarkable individuals running an Air Force Base. In fact, she knows that the Scotch Colonel was reputed for his even-handed wise command, and Drambuie Girl created social programs that changed the lives of those around her. CA Scotch Chick doesn't even have difficulty envisioning her two friends entertaining. After all, her friends have impeccable taste in single malt whisky.
What she cannot even begin to imagine, however, is how these two endured the nonsense and politics necessary to rise to such a level of command. Either the air force actually focused on merit during that time, or our buddies are pretty darn good actors. I'm bettin' on the acting – "And the award for best couple in a real life drama goes to The Scotch Colonel and Drambuie Girl!"
Anyway, the Scotch Colonel and Drambuie Girl have opened numerous single malt doors for the CA Scotch Couple. They provided CA Scotch Gent's first introduction to Glenrothes – while he was in Chicago doing some work with Drambuie Girl, they invited him over to their cool townhouse, and they cracked open a bottle of Signatory 1991 Glen Rothes that their daughter had brought back from England. Later they introduced the CA Scotch Couple to Drambuie, a liqueur made with single malt whisky (with very interesting stories of drinking parties involving flaming Drambuie on the Air Force base), and finally, the Scotch Colonel shared his love for Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine and Balvenie Double Wood.
This past weekend, the CA Scotch Couple had the opportunity to catch up with their friends. It was a wonderful weekend filled with single malt whisky and fun Field Trips. The CA Scotch Couple traveled with their friends to Sam's – an incredible big bin store, The Duke of Perth – a Chicago pub with an awesome whisky menu, and Baladoché – a Tasty Treat establishment that serves fantastic gelato and one of CA Scotch Chick's favorite treats of all time, Belgian Sucre Waffles.
In addition, there was plenty of Yellow Submarine, Balvenie Double Wood, and Drambuie on hand. Moreover, the Sam's Field Trip turned up a very interesting Independent Bottling of Wild Scotsman 13 Year Mortlach. Finally, while the Scotch Colonel couldn't find the Signatory 1991 Glenrothes, Sam's helped him snag a Signatory 1994 Glenrothes.
CA Scotch Chick will be posting reviews of The Duke of Perth, Baladoché, and Sam's throughout the week and into next, and she is saving the review of the Wild Scotsman Mortlach to go with the Sam's overview. The 1994 Signatory Glen Rothes was previously reviewed as part of the Glenrothes Girls weekend, and the Scotch Chix are saving The Balvenie Double Wood to be reviewed as part of a flight DC Scotch Chick indulged in. For now, however, below please find CA Scotch Chick's reviews of Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine and Pierre Charles Edward Liquer Drambuie.
