Chicago in August is traditionally hot, humid, and sticky. However, the weather this weekend was straight out of San Diego's guidebook – mid 70's, no humidity, with a light breeze. On such a fantastic day, the CA Scotch Couple and their buddies, Drambuie Girl and the Scotch Colonel, boarded the El, then strolled the five blocks from the Diversey stop to the doors of Duke of Perth, one of Chicago's premier scotch bars.

Duke of Perth has two indoor areas and a nice patio. It features over 70 single malts and five tasting flights, with three whiskys each: The Kilt Warmer (Dalwhinnie 15, Cragganmore 12, Glenmorangie 10), The Roving Drover (Glenkinchie 10, Clynelish 14, Caol Ila 18), For Peats Sake (Talisker 10, Caol Ila 18, Laphroig 10), My Sherry Amour (Balvenie Double Wood 12, Macallan 12, Bowmore Darkest Sherry), and The Full Monty (Auchentoshan 21, Macallan 25, Caol Ila 25). It also has a full pub menu with such traditional dishes as fish and chips and chicken and mushroom pie.

On such a lovely day, the CA Scotch Couple and their friends opted for the patio. Since they had a lot of scotch waiting for them back at the home of the Scotch Colonel and Drambuie Girl, they forewent the flights and just ordered off the whisky menu. CA Scotch Gent, who is an avid Springbank fan, chose the Springbank 100 Proof, and CA Scotch Chick went for the Bunnahabhain 18. They also ordered the fish and chips and chicken and mushroom pie.

Bunnahabhain 18 and Springbank 100 Proof

The Springbank 100 Proof was a bit of a disappointment. While it had the distinctive Springbank finish, it did not have the layers of flavor of the 10 or 15. The Bunnahabhain 18 was a great find, however. It had a lovely taste of lemon drops, and it will soon be making its way to CA Scotch Chick's Drink's Table. The pub food was adequate but nothing special.

After a relaxing meal, sipping single malts in the sunshine, the CA Scotch Couple and their friends headed back to the El stop. On the way, however, they made a detour into Baladoché, a little Tasty Treat shop they noticed on the walk there. Watch tomorrow's column for a review of Baladoché. Below please find CA Scotch Chick's review of Springbank 100 Proof and Bunnahabhain 18.
