The Old Grey Mare: Middleton Irish Whiskey 2007

Middleton Irish Whisky is a blended whiskey with a high alcohol content. It is passed through the still three times and aged in sherry casks for five years. Since each release is slightly different, it is stamped with the year.

When CA Scotch Chick was growing up, she had an old gray mare named Blue. Blue was usually an even tempered thing who always smelled slightly of apples and oats. She had an extremely smooth gait, and a tendency to move slowly unless she was startled by something. A ride on Blue was usually pretty pedestrian, but it could turn rather exciting quickly. Middleton Irish Whisky 2007 reminded CA Scotch Chick of Blue. It was smooth but flat, with an ever so slight apple nose and palate. It ended, however, with a quick and slightly startling uplift in the finish.
