Memorial Week Tasting Part II: G Man and Spunky Spouse

The Scotch Chix and their Scotch Gents began their week of play by attending some Memorial Day festivities at the gorgeous home of one of their favorite couples – G Man and Spunky Spouse.

Like many of the Scotch Chix friends, this amazing couple has moved in high circles – a fact that one would never suspect from spending time with them. They are unassuming, easy to be with, and full of life. G Man is a frequent participant at the CA Conference Scotch Sessions, to which we wish he would bring Spunky Spouse more often. The only flaw this peerless couple has is that G Man prefers his single malt whisky on the rocks – a clear violation of Scotch Chix Rule #2.

G Man is well aware of the Scotch Chix passion for single malt whisky, and he had prepared a perfect surprise – a lovely understated Islay scotch previously unknown to the Scotch Chix: Bunnahabhain 12. It was the highlight of a wonderful evening. Delightful company and a delicious scotch discovery, what could be better?

DC Scotch Chick was the designated driver and couldn't sample at G Man's house. Consequently, on the way back to her lair, the Scotch Chix acquired a bottle for further investigation, pairing it with another Islay scotch they knew and loved from their early days (and one of their top five), Bruichladdich 12, and contrasting these two sublime brothers with their slightly peatier cousin, Caol Ila 12.

Here, Ladies and Gentleman, are the Scotch Chix reviews of some of the milder Islay scotches: Bunnahabhain 12, Bruichladdich 12 and Caol Ila 12.
